Don’t overlook the outside of a house as a great place to add more value.

Warmer weather is traditionally a time for cleaning and decluttering. And while “spring cleaning” efforts typically focus on the inside of a house, homeowners should think about how they can spruce up the outside of their homes as well. Enhancing a home's exterior can add significant curb appeal and value for the homeowner.

Before beginning any home exterior projects, homeowners should consider the following:

• Budget—make sure it's realistic and stick to it.
• Goals—define the desired outcomes for the completed project. For example, is the main objective to increase the resale value of the home, or is it simply a much-needed remodeling?
• Sources—homeowners should consult reliable contractors, builders, architects and realtors for advice (and get tips from friends and neighbors too).

Reroofing is one common exterior project that increases a home's value. Sometimes homeowners are forced to put new roofs on their homes after weather or fire damage. They may also be facing expired warranties on the roofing material. And many homeowners today are reroofing simply to enhance the curb appeal of the home—even if it's not on the market.

Academy Roofing has had Clients express their concern that the weather may be too hot or too cold for workers to put on their new roof and they want to wait for the right weather.  On one hand our client's are correct, there are some temperatures are not conducive to roofing; however, Academy would never put on a roof unless the weather was appropriate for roofing.

On a side note, if a claim is filed with the insurance company, the claims process can take up to a couple weeks or months, depending on the insurance company.  Academy Educators work as our client's Advocates to make the process as smooth as possible.  It is best to start the claims process as soon as damage is detected by a roofing professional, even if it is a sizzling hot summer or cool winter.  Most likely the conditions are well enough to install a new roof, but starting the claims process sooner than later is best to ensure proper timing for installation.

Hire A Roofer You Can Trust

Sadly, there are a lot of contractors who will get a liability insurance policy then never pay for it, BUT they have the paperwork so homeowners think they are covered.  If a worker from an uninsured crew falls off the roof or gets hurt, they can sue the homeowner for damages.  There are too many horror stories about bad contractors for any homeowner to take a chance on a fly by night organization.  Do your due diligence and check them out and ask a lot of questions! If a contractor cannot give insurance documentation or is reluctant to provide information, that is a BIG red flag and it is time to call Academy Roofing!

Many people in Huntsville have noticed yellow trucks parked at the Century Office Center on South Parkway.   The questions we are often asked are, "Where did they come from?" and "What company do they belong to?"  Well, the yellow trucks are part of Academy Roofing's fleet of yellow Toyota FJs.  Academy believes in professionalism and quality from our vehicles to our Educators and down to the shingles we use on our client's roof.  If you see one of our yellow FJ parked at our office (3322 S.
